Rosco Moorehead's hit of 139.2 feet catapulted him to the 9 and 10 year old Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run title Wednesday at Beeland Park. Moorehead lost to the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department defending champion Chip Taylor in the pitching and the running category. But Moorehead's best hit was almost twice as long as Taylor's.
Moorehead will be joined by 11 and 12 year old champ Hunter Armstrong and 13 and 14 year old champion Todd Burkett in the district competition later this month.
Moorehead finished with a total score of 845 points, while Taylor finished second with 803. Harper Vinson was third with 552 points.
Taylor won the pitching competition by hitting five of six targets, while Moorehead hit four.
Taylor then ran the basepath with the fastest time of 8.68 seconds. Vinson finished in 8.73 seconds and Moorehead was third in 8.83 seconds.
Armstrong won the hitting and the running events to advance to the district competition in Dothan.
Jason Schofield, who finished second in the competition, won the pitching title by hitting four of the six targets.
