Fort Dale Eagles drop three of five singles matches in state tourney

MONTGOMERY - The Fort Dale Eagles dropped three of five first round matches at the Alabama Independent Schools Association state tennis championships this week and one of two doubles matches at Lagoon Park Monday and Tuesday.
The Eagles' lone bright spot was in boy's no. one singles where Andrew Jones advanced to the championship match with a 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-3 win before losing to Lee-Scott's Drew Tatum 6-1, 6-1. It was the fourth straight state title for Tatum who hasn't lost a match at no. one singles in the last four years.
At no. two singles Stephen Butts was a first round winner over Justin Lehnhoff of Glenwood 6-0, 6-0 but lost his second round match to Lee-Scott's Gary Fuller 6-0, 6-0. In boy's no. three singles Stimpson Crosby went down to Monroe's Thomas Williams 6-3, 6-3. In the no. four singles Kyle Greer lost his first round match to Monroe's Josh Rotch 6-0, 6-2 while David Foshee lost his first round match to Glenwood's Brian Ezell 6-0, 6-0.
In the no. one singles match the team of Jones and Butts won their first round match over Lehnhoff and Glenwoood's Andrew Denzik 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, but dropped their second round match to Fuller-Tatum 6-0, 6-2. In no. two doubles the team of Crosby-Greer dropped their first round match to the team of Williams-Rotch 6-0, 6-1.
