n Uniform Swap Day

The Butler County Schools will hold a Uniform Swap Day Wednesday, June 28 at the W.O. Parmer Elementary School Gym in Greenville. All used uniforms should be clean, pressed and neatly folded with the sizes clearly marked. Uniforms should be brought to the gym between the hours of 8 and 10 a.m. One ticket will be provided for each article of clothing brought. Tickets should be brought to gym and exchanged for uniforms between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon. Donations of uniforms will be welcomed.

n Welcome Baptist Church Revival

Welcome Baptist will be in revival at 7 p.m. nightly Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1. Services are at 11 a.m. Sunday morning. Guest speaker is John Sparks of Tallassee; pastor is Terry Heartsill. Special music is planned each night.

n Sweet Home AME Zion Church Anniversary

Sweet Home AME Zion Church in Forest Home celebrates its 2nd Anniversary at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night, July 1, 2006, with a singing to the Glory of God. At 11 a.m., Sunday, July 2, Evangelist Mylinda Simpson of the Orthodox Bible Church of Greenville will deliver the message; at 2 p.m. that Sunday, Rev. Bernard Bullard, pastor of Zion Rest AME Zion Church of Forest Home will speak. Rev. Mark Hawkins and First Lady Sister Sherry Hawkins invite you to join them.

n 90th birthday celebration

The 90th birthday celebration for Zelna Perdue Cates Fail will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the Spring Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 142 Ashmore Road, Honoraville. Gospel singing to follow. Please, no gifts – your presence is enough.

n Tribes of Israel Program

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Ronald Thompson, pastor, presents the 12 Tribes of Israel Program at 6 p.m. on July 7, 2006 at the church location at 2240 Mt. Zion Rd in Greenville. Guest Speaker will be the Rev. Fletcher Fountain of the Lily Baptist Church of Hayneville. Singers, soloists and praise dancers will be featured and dinner will be served. Come one, come all!

n Giant Yard Sale and Fish Fry

The Garland Women’s Social Club is sponsoring an 11-family yard sale and fish fry fundraiser kicking off at 7 a.m. on July 8. Location is Washington Ave. and N. Palmer Streets in Georgiana. Lots and lots of stuff for children and adults; accessories, clothes, shoes, home d\u00E9cor, toys and more.

n Substitute Teacher Training

Persons interested in substitute teaching in the Butler County School System are invited to the Substitute Teacher Training session offered on Monday, July 17, from 9 a.m.

to noon

The Butler County Board of Education will host its annual reception for retiring employees at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the Butler County Board of Education Central Office boardroom located at 215 Administrative Dr., Greenville. The public is invited to attend.

n Cemetery Association Meeting

A meeting of the Concord Cemetery Memorial Association is set for Saturday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Tabernacle Church. All interested persons are cordially invited to attend and bring a picnic lunch.

After lunch, everyone is invited to tour the cemetery and help in clean-up work. Wear suitable clothing and walking shoes.

Tabernacle Church is located on the Old Federal Road and can be reached from Interstate 65 via the Tyson Exit (drive over the freeway and head East if coming southbound), go down Cloverfield Road (SH 24), turn right on the Old Federal Road and in about two miles, you’ll see Tabernacle Church on the right.

n Community Prayer Breakfast

A community prayer breakfast is held the first Wednesday of each month at 8 a.m. inn the Priester’s Pecans dining area. Special guests share a variety of Christian topics each month. Everyone is invited and encouraged to bring a friend. Call 334-391-0351 for more information.

Butler County Chess Club

The Greenville Chess Club meets on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Butler Baptist Associational Office, 309 South Pine Street.

Local chess players or those who would like to learn how to play are welcome.

n County Commission

The meeting time for the Butler County Commission’s regularly scheduled second-Monday meetings has been changed from 10 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Workshops for each regularly scheduled meeting will still be held on the prior Thursday at 6 p.m.

n Athletic Club Meeting

The public is invited to participate at scheduled Greenville High Athletic Club meetings at 6 p.m. every other Monday in the high school cafeteria. The public is encouraged to attend and share ideas toward building a championship-level athletic department.

n 21st Century Afterschool Program

The Butler County Board of Education will be offering a 21st Century Afterschool Program for K-8th grade students Monday-Friday until 5 p.m. at W.O. Parmer, Greenville Elementary, and at the Education and Community Center for Greenville Middle School students.

Certified teachers assist with homework and offer learning activities which are fun and educational. Tuition is $25 per month. Registration forms are available at each of the sites.

n School Readiness

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church #2 Christian Academy is taking applications for 6-weeks to 5-year-olds for our kindergarten program and school readiness program. Our hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Family guardians and private students are accepted. For more information, please call 563-7062
