County, city will receive big boost from Hollywood

Welcome to Butler County, Hollywood. Friday's announcement that a movie would be filmed in Butler County sent a ripple of enthusiastic support throughout the area, once again casting a positive spotlight on our county and its people. The old axiom that “any publicity is good publicity” rings true. From Sen. Russ Feingold's ignoble comments that created a state and national stir; to last year's ABC-sponsored trip to New York and the filming of the network's short-lived reality show My Kind of Town; to the days following Hurricane Katrina when CNN spotlighted our heartwarming welcome to Gulf Coast evacuees; Greenville and Butler County have seen their fair share of press.
The film, entitled “The Honeydripper” features a marquee star in Danny Glover, star of the popular “Lethal Weapon” franchise and the Academy Award winning “The Color Purple.” Not only will Butler County receive an economic boost from the volume of people associated with the production, but also how fascinating will it be to watch a movie and recognize our county's own buildings, landmarks and people dancing across the silver screen?
We applaud The Butler County Commission for Economic Development, and the Alabama Film Office for securing this project, one that will - literally - be the talk of the town for years to come.
