In an exciting battle Friday night, Crenshaw Christian Academy jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead, then held on tightly as East Memorial Christian battled back with 20 points of its own, forcing CCA to tack on another six in the fourth quarter for a final score of 26-20.
It was a team effort with everyone contributing,” Crenshaw Christian head coach Roland Jones said. “Our Offense, behind (Quarterback Brian Brasington) really spread the ball around with several of our guys coming up big.”
Brasington led the charge, hitting 9-of-16 for 100 yards and one touchdown.
Heading up the running attack was Jake Page with 104 yards and one touchdown, Derek Manning with 85 yards and Weston Byrd with 39 yards and a touchdown.
On the receiving end was Allen Sasser with six catches for 78 yards, while Jared Hughes added one catch for a touchdown.
The Cougar Defense, led by Page with six solo tackles, had a whopping 16 players contribute at least one stop to the hold EMCA.
Manning followed closely with seven, while Matthew Walden had five and a fumble recovery.
Hughes added five tackles of his own and caused a fumble.
Rounding up the attack was Charlie Mack with three stops and a fumble recovery.
“With stats like these, we have a great nucleus to build on”, said Jones. “We appreciate all the fan support and hope to give you all a team you can be proud of.”
Proud Cougar fans will be on hand this week when CCA hosts Autauga Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Friday night.
