Board to discuss facilities, costs at workshop in November

Superintendent Mike Looney reported to the Board of Education on Thursday that grant totals for the current school year is $345,000.
In breaking down the total, Looney said Greenville Middle School and W.O. Parmer/Greenville Elementary School has each received $75,000 as a Steps to Success and BEST grants respectively; Georgiana High School and Robert L. Austin Elementary received Quest grants totaling $175,000; and the system's Learn & Serve program received a $20,000 grant.
“I'd like to publicly thank Mrs. Amy Bryan (curriculum specialist) for her work in helping us acquire these grants,” said Looney.
In other business:
n The board recognized Gloria Jean Kent, a bus driver with the transportation department, on her retirement; approved requests for maternity leave by Amanda Coghlan and Elizabeth Gibson; and approved the employment of Elizabeth Wright as an elementary teacher at W.O. Parmer Elementary School.
n The board scheduled a work session for Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. to be held immediately prior to the regularly scheduled meeting. The board will discuss the findings of the facility analysis survey (see last Saturday's Advocate for the complete story).
