McKenzie still in the playoff hunt

For the past few years, the McKenzie Tigers have been wrapping up the season in Week 9.

This season is different.

With the win Friday night over Providence Christian, the Tigers (3-5) have positioned themselves to make the playoffs with another win over the region foe Florala Wildcats (4-4) this Friday night.

&#8220I keep reiterating the fact that this is the biggest game of (our players') high school careers,” McKenzie head coach Miles Brown said.

Florala is coming off a loss to Brantley, something Brown and his staff have come accustomed to, but Brown said playing Brantley's leftovers is no advantage.

&#8220No, because they are usually mad,” Brown said.

Brown said the Wildcats have many bright spots on their team, especially on the sideline.

&#8220Their biggest strength is their head coach (Brad Garner),” Brown said. &#8220He has those guys down there believing in his system and he is a proven winner.”

A win Friday night, Brown said, would be huge for his team, school and community.

&#8220A win this Friday night… would set the foundation for this program,” Brown said.

Brown said he isn't concerned with what happens if the Tigers do win, as that will take care of itself, because the biggest game for McKenzie is against Florala.

&#8220I know you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket, but we are putting everything we've got into Florala,” Brown said.

Kickoff for Friday night's game at McKenzie is scheduled for 7 p.m.
