Tigers skin Bears; face Red Level second time

The Luverne Tigers played four good quarters of football here last Friday night, as they beat the Cottonwood Bears 47 to 6.

The only problem that still haunts the Tigers is their ability to convert on a PAT.

The Bears won the toss and chose to receive the opening kick-off.

They started on their 25-yard line and in 3 plays were punting from their 17-yard line.

Their punt was good for 32 yards.

After a Fred Hawkins' return of 7 yards, the Tigers set up camp at the Bear 43-yard line.

The Tigers used only 7 plays to find the Bear end zone.

The touchdown came on an 11-yard pass from QB Chad Free to wide out Payton McGhee.

The PAT was good on a run by Free, and with 6:52 left in the first quarter, the Tigers had all the points they would need.

The Bears got on the board in the second quarter as they drove 65 yards in 13 plays.

The Tigers pushed two TD's across the goal line in the second quarter also.

The first TD of the second quarter came on a 32-yard pass interception return by Romethious Harris.

Free scored the PAT.

The second came on a 35-yard run by Free, after a short drive of 44 yards.

The PAT failed.

At the half it was Tigers 22 – Bears 6.

The second half started with the Tigers starting at their 47-yard line, after a great kick off return by Cory Oliver of 44 yards.

The Tigers used the field possession to move in for their fourth TD of the night.

It took 8 plays with the touchdown coming on a 16-yard run by QB Chad Free.

The try for 2 failed, but the Tiger lead was 28 to 6.

The Tiger defense held the Bears' offense in check all night long.

The second Tiger touchdown of the second half came on another pass interception return.

Cory Oliver picked off a Bear toss and returned it 26 yards for a TD.

Allan Foster kicked the PAT, and the Tiger lead was 35 to 6.

The Tigers scored one more in the third quarter as Narvais Cole capped a 47-yard drive with an 8-yard run.

Foster again hit the PAT.

The final Tiger TD came on a 2-yard run by Micah Wallace after an 84-yard drive.

The drive was led by back-up QB Seth Smith, who directedthe drive all the way.

The Tigers were led on offense by Fred Hawkins and Narvais Cole.

Hawkins had 82 yards and 8 carries, while Cole had 62 on 10 totes.

Micah Wallace had 49 yards on 9 carries.

QB Free had 61 yards and 2 TD's, while Wallace and Cole had one each.

Free was

7 of 15 passing for 93 yards and 1 TD.

The Tigers gained 389 total yards, while the defense gave up only 157.

Josh Kilpatrick led the defense with 11 tackles.

Justin Ray had 10.

Romethious Harris had 4 stops and one interception for a TD.

The Tigers will host the Red Level Tigers for a second time this season this Friday night at Glenn Daniel Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
