Fort Dale Eagles take 3-of-4 from Macon-East Knights

The Fort Dale Academy varsity boy's basketball team dropped to 4-4 on the season Tuesday night as the visiting Macon-East Academy Knights opened up a nine-point halftime lead and held on for the 53-46 win.

Fort Dale's first basket did not come until two seconds remaining in the opening period when freshman Shanks Simmons hit a jump shot.

The Eagles struggled in the first half, committing 13 turnovers.

In the second half, junior Davis Watts cut the Knights' lead to two with just under a minute remaining in the game, but Macon-East was able to pull away.

Ben Bates was the leading scorer for the Eagles with eight points and four steals.

Andrew Jones had sevens points and while Bobby Martin and Adam Vickery each had five.

Senior Ty Newton also finished with four points and 10 rebounds.

For Macon-East, Blake Thomas was the leading scorer with 13 points while Drew Easterling had 11 points.

Josh Owings also had nine points for the Knights.

The Eagle basketball teams will return to action Monday at Crenshaw Christian Academy. Games start with the junior varsity girls at 4 p.m.

Varsity Girls

Reggie Mantooth's varsity Lady Eagles improved to 7-1 on the season with a 56-26 win over the visiting Macon-East Lady Knights Tuesday.

The Eagles opened up a 26-11 halftime lead and then held the Knights to just four points in the third period to secure the win.

Tyler Manning opened the game up with a three-pointer on the game's opening possession and then answered that shot withy another three on the Eagles' next possession.

Manning finished with seven points and three steals.

The Eagles' leading scorer was Jennifer Pouncey with nine points.

Michelle Hulick was just three rebounds shy of tying the school record of 18 with her 15-rebound performance. Hulick also had seven points, two blocks and three steals.

Ulli Sandstrom added eights points while Morgan Pouncey had six points, 11 rebounds and three steals.

Beth Fower led Macon-East with 11 points while Dakota Drumond finished with three points.

JV Boys

William Johnson's Fort Dale Academy junior varsity boy's basketball team improved its record Tuesday night with an impressive 38-34 win over Macon-East.

Although the Knights staged a comeback at the end, the Eagles were able to hold on for the victory.

Shanks Simmons was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 13 points and three assists.

Also for Fort Dale, Matthew Burkett had seven points, Hunter Armstrong had six points and six rebounds, Todd Burkett had five points and four rebounds and Dustin Till had three points and four rebounds.

For Macon-East, John Michael Higgens was the leading scorer with 11 points while Colton Henderson and Josh Mielke each had six points.

JV Girls

The Fort Dale Academy junior varsity Lady Eagles put together an impressive win Tuesday over the Macon-East Knights, 44-16.

Abbey martin led the way for the Eagles with 11 points, four steals and four rebounds. Martin was also 5-of-7 from the field.

Emily Bouleware, Karli Bouleware and Sidney Boutwell each had six points in the win.

Also for Fort Dale, Barrett Leverett had five points, Lori Fail had four points and three rebounds and Murphy Middleton and Katie Wilson each had two points.
