Smith slams home win over Panthers

Zadarius Smith had a game-high 28 points Monday night as the Greenville Middle School Tigers avenged last season's loss with a 51-30 win over the Georgiana Panthers.

The Tigers held a five-point advantage over the Panthers after the first period and then took a 12-point lead into the locker room at the half.

Greenville opened the lead to 20 after the third period and then, in the closing minutes of the game, Smith slammed home a basket to seal the win for the Tigers.

Malik Ruffin was the next-leading scorer for the Tigers with six points, including 4-of-4 from the free-throw line, while teammate Michael Watts also contributed four points.

For the Panthers, Derrick Crittenden had nine points and Victor Marshal had 14.

Georgiana 34, Greenville 30

In a thrilling finish that came right down to the wire, the Georgiana Panthers emerged victorious Monday night as Aleshia Cheatham's 12 points were enough to lead the Panthers over the Greenville Middle School Lady Tigers, 34-30.

Georgiana was lead by Cheatham's 12 points and then by Sharran Matthews with nine points. Terika Hawkins had five points while Ke'Annya Mixon had four in the win.

For the Lady Tigers, Kiara Cook had a team-high 12 points while Kieasha Riley and Telesha McDonald had six points apiece.
