Luverne UMC to hold spaghetti supper and cake auction Feb. 7

Luverne United Methodist Church is hosting a spaghetti supper and cake auction Wednesday, February 7th from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.

Cost of the spaghetti supper is $5.00 per plate.

Join us for a time of food and fellowship as we support &#8220Rockin' and Rollin' For a Cure” at the old Lawhon's Restaurant building at 71 East Fifth Street.

The 73rd Annual Meeting of The Alabama-Crenshaw Baptist Association was held at Chapel Hill Baptist Church on January 25, 2007.

Pastor Mike Moses, moderator, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. and gave the opening prayer.

Congregational singing was led by Tim and Kathy Dowdy.

A roll call of churches and seating of the messengers was by Dot Sims (Secretary/Clerk).

Rev. Jim Tate (Mt. Zion Baptist Church) conducted the adoption of program.

Rev. Mike Moses (Chapel Hill Baptist Church) established time, date and place of 2007 Annual Meeting.

He also brought attention to all reports listed in the handout booklet.

Rev. Mike also led the congregation in a time of prayer and praise to the Lord for His guidance as the churches seek a Director of Missions.

Several announcements were made before the break time.

One announcement encouraged all churches to attend the annual SAV-A-LIFE Auction to be held at Park Memorial Methodist Church in Troy on February 13th at 7:00 p.m. (334-566-2880).

A reminder was also given for all men to attend the Annual Swamp Supper on February 24th to be held this year at Tom Harbin Farm Center.

All ladies were invited to a special prayer meeting at South Luverne Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on February 24th.

After the break time of fellowship, Pastor Mike Moses introduced the special music that was rendered by Tim Dowdy.

He then introduced Dr. Gary Swafford (State Convention) as the guest speaker who gave a very inspirational message to the Association.

The meeting was adjourned by prayer.

Everyone was delighted to have Perry Pennington as a guest and visitor.

Perry is home on furlough and is sponsored as a missionary by the Crenshaw Baptist Association.

The Brantley Rural Club met for their January 18th meeting in the home of Jake and Susie Carnes at 1:30 p.m.

Seventeen members attended and welcomed the new president, Ann Holland, who called the meeting to order.

The club thanked La Rue Kelsoe for her 12 years of dedicated service as past president.

Susie conducted the devotional that included all members taking part by each reading selected verses of scripture.

Delores Mount gave the treasurer's report and shared a letter from Marjorie Hughes that thanked the club for their gift of a sunshine basket.

Louise Morgan and Edna Norsworthy gave an account of their delightful visit with Marjorie and Austil when they delivered the basket of useful items.

Jean Holladay, co-hostess, and Susie served an array of refreshments.

The February meeting will be held on February 15th in the home of Web and Merle Compton.

Elaine Bozeman was honored on her recent birthday last Saturday night in the home of her daughter, Britt and Angela Arthur and Sarah of Glenwood.

Everyone enjoyed a hamburger and hot dog cook-out with all the trimmings.

A decorated birthday cake was served.

Also celebrating birthdays and honored were Taylor Hinton, a granddaughter of Elaine, and Jeremy Smith of Troy, Britt's brother-in-law.

Ms. Maud K. Garrick of Montgomery, the Nutrition Coordinator from South Central Alabama Development Commission, visited the Senior Nutrition Center in Luverne Monday, January 29th.

This was an assessment visit.

Ms. Maud enjoyed visiting with the members and Director Bruniece Thomas.

She made complimentary remarks about the display of pictures on the bulletin board that also held the Valentine theme for February.

A Sacred Harp singing will be held this Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Alabama State Capitol Rotunda building in Montgomery. The traditional shaped-note singing will begin at 9:30 a.m. with one hour for lunch. Singing will resume from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Four different shape-note hymnals will be used. Important reminder . . . All men and sons, mark your calendar to attend the 12th annual Swamp Supper that will be held February 24th starting really early at the Tom Harbin Farm Center.

All ladies are invited to attend a special prayer service at South Luverne Baptist at 10:00 a.m. on February 24th with Debra Rhodes of Kauffman, Texas, as guest speaker.

This will be an event ladies will not want to miss, held in conjunction with the Swamp Supper Activity.

Also, remember to attend the annual SAV-A-LIFE auction in Troy to be held at Park Memorial Methodist Church on February 13th at 6:00 p.m.
