Championship sweep

Reggie Mantooth's Fort Dale Academy Lady Eagles completed the area championship sweep Saturday afternoon at Hooper by downing the Morgan Senators for the area tournament championship, 51-24.

The Eagles held the Senators to just four points in the first period and never looked back.

During the two-day tournament, the Lady Eagles outscored their opponents 113-36.

Casey Hicks had an explosive game for the Eagles, scoring a game-high 20 points while also pulling down five rebounds and taking seven steals.

Michelle Hulick was next for the Eagles with 10 points and 13 rebounds, nine of which came in the first half, and she was followed by Morgan Pouncey with eight points and seven rebounds, Jennifer Pouncey with six points and four rebounds, Tyler Manning with three points and seven steals and Abbey Martin and Ulli Sandstrom with two points apiece.

For the Morgan Senators, Aly Bradford had a team-high nine points and Jaime Pilcher finished with eight in the loss.

Hicks was named as the tournament's Most Valuable Player for her huge effort in the championship game and Morgan Pouncey and Hulick were also named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Eagles will take on the Senators once again Friday at 10 a.m. in the quarterfinals of the AISA Class AAA playoffs.
