Thinking about drag racing on Butler County roads?

Think again.

Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden said he has received several complaints about drag racing on county roads and such dangerous and reckless abuse will not be tolerated.

&#8220Drag racing is illegal and dangerous and wee are going to do everything we can to stop it,” Harden said.

On Sunday, some drag racers were caught and one driver attempted to elude the officers. A chased ensued into Lowndes County where the driver was able to get away.

Officers have identified the driver and vehicle and are currently looking for the suspect.

Harden said drag racing has not been a problem in Butler County for several years, but because of the rise in complaints about such racing, he asking his deputies and state troopers to be on the lookout.

Anyone caught drag racing will face reckless driving charges and could face a fine, jail time or both.

&#8220We are going to put a stop to drag racing on county roads,” Harden said.

Between the morning hours of 8-9 a.m. Saturday morning, a house on Wald Road in Greenville was broken into and burglarized.

A suspect entered through the back door of the residence and took an undetermined amount of U.S. currency.

&#8220We are asking if anyone saw anything suspicious or knows anything about this act, please contact the Butler County Sheriff's Office,” Harden said.
