Hold on tight, folks: a thigh-slappin', boot-stompin' good time is coming Greenville's way next Monday night, February 19.

&#8220Urban Cowboy: the Musical” rides in to the historic Ritz Theatre at 7 p.m. as the latest offering in the Greenville Area Arts Council's (GAAC) 2006-2007 season.

Based on the 1980 Paramount Pictures film featuring John Travolta and Debra Winger in the lead roles, &#8220Urban Cowboy” tells the tale of Bud, a brand-new kind of cowboy, and Sissy, his sweetheart, and their whirlwind courtship and marriage.

The story is played out against the backdrop of the world's biggest honky-tonk, Gilley's, famed for its sawdust-covered dance floors, top country bands and its mechanical bull.

The Tony-nominated show, originally featured on Broadway in 2003, offers boisterous, high-energy choreography and a number of hit songs from the film, including &#8220Lookin' for Love in All the Wrong Places” and &#8220The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Classics by Brooks and Dunn, Clint Black, Shania Twain, Garth Brooks and more country greats are featured in the musical, along with original songs by composer Jason Robert Brown.

WOR Radio described the show as &#8220bouncy, fresh and just a whole lot of fun.”

Windwood Theatricals, the touring company bringing &#8220Urban Cowboy” to the Camellia City, also delivered acclaimed performances of &#8220Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” &#8220Barry Manilow's Copacabana” and &#8220Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” in past GAAC seasons.

&#8220These group always does an excellent job. They have such talented performers, great costumes, music - I'm sure it will be a very enjoyable show,” said GAAC Membership Chair Roberta Gamble.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and will be available at The Pineapple and the box office the night of the performance.
