Shelby cancels visit to Greenville

Sen. Richard Shelby's scheduled visit to Butler County this morning has been cancelled due to a rare Saturday session in the Senate.
The House of Representatives issued a resolution on Friday opposing President Bush's build up of troops in Iraq. The Senate will vote today on whether or not to debate the same resolution as the House.
A statement sent by email to The Greenville Advocate from Shelby's office apologized for the lateness of the cancellation and stated that Shelby would “make every effort to reschedule the meeting as soon as possible. The Senator apologizes for the inconvenience that may have been caused by this late notice.”
The county visit was scheduled to take place at the Greenville YMCA and Shelby was to discuss his legislative agenda for the 110th Congress as well as important issues facing the nation and the state of Alabama. The meeting was to be open to the public.
