Tigers drop double-header to Smiths Station Panthers

After reeling off four wins in a row, the Greenville Tigers fell to 9-8 on the season March 20 as the Class 6A Smiths Station Panthers swept the double-header, 14-4 and 10-0.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the top half of the second-inning in the first game, but the Panthers answer the call in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.

The Panthers took the lead in the third inning, but the Tigers answered back to tie the game at 4-4.

In the fourth inning, the Panthers exploded offensively, scoring seven runs to clinch the victory.

At the plate for the Tigers, Ryan Smith was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Demarcus Robinson, Ethan Mauch, Lynn Lewis, Zac Smith and Antonio Smith also each had a hit for the Tigers.

Clay, Culverson, Martin, Alston, Farant and Brinson scored two runs apiece for the Panthers.

Clay earned the win for the Panthers while Parker Winters picked up the loss for Greenville.

The Tigers will return to action Friday as they travel to Dallas County. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Smiths Station 10, Greenville 0 (Game 2)

The Smiths Station Panthers out-hit the Greenville Tigers 12-5 in Game 2 of a double-header March 20 to take the two-game sweep, 10-0.

Offensively for the Tigers, Ethan Mauch was the leading hitter with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double.

Casey Weston, Josh Longmire and Ryan Smith also each had a hit in the loss.

On the mound, Farant earned the win for Smiths Station while Weston picked up the loss for Greenville.
