Greenville sinks Generals

The Greenville High School varsity softball team improved to 4-6 on the season Tuesday as they scored eight runs in the fourth inning to secure the victory over the Robert E. Lee Generals, 12-2.

The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning and added another in the third before exploding offensively in the fourth inning.

Greenville never trailed against the Generals.

At the plate for the Tigers, junior Brittany White was the leading hitter with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double and a stolen base, followed by Nicole Norton and Kairee Newton each with a hit.

Norton scored a team-high three runs for the Tigers, followed by Cortnee Myers, Kayla Garlock and Marvia Scott with two runs apiece and White, Kristi Garlock and Abby Blackmon each with one.

Myers had a team-high six stolen bases, followed by Kayla Garlock and Norton each with five steals and Kristi Garlock and Scott each with four. White also had two runs batted in for the Tigers.

For the Generals, Hudgens, Lambeth and David each scattered a hit while Jeter had two RBIs.

On the mound, White earned the win while striking out nine batters. Hudgens picked up the loss for Robert E. Lee.

The Tigers will return to action Monday as they travel to Prattville to take on the Lions at 6 p.m. The junior varsity team will play first at 4:30 p.m.
