McKenzie High School senior Wes Presley has been training to join the Auburn Fire Department when he enrolls at Auburn University in the fall and last Saturday he changed up his training regimen just a bit.

Exactly 6.2 miles of change.

As part of the Southeast Alabama Gas Corporation team, Wes and his father Mike, who works for Southeast Alabama Gas, participated in the Azalea Trail Run 10K in Mobile March 24.

Wes, who is a baseball player at McKenzie and an Achiever Award nominee, ran in the men's 15-19 age division and finished in 1:15:45 while his father Mike ran in the men's 45-49 age division and finished in 58:16.

The Southeast Alabama gas team finished third overall in the corporate division.

Officials said 3,497 runners registered for the event and 3,003 of those finished.

&#8220I'm just glad I finished,” Wes said.

Wes said his father ran or jogged the entire event but he ran or jogged 3/4 of the event due to a sore ankle.

&#8220I hurt my ankle and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to run,” Wes said. &#8220But the Lord helped me through it.”
