In preparation of the lawnmower giveaway at the May 18 football jamboree game, the McKenzie High School football team will be at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Greenville Saturday, April 14, selling raffle tickets for the John Deere.
During the May 18 spring game, a John Deere 115 riding lawnmower will be raffled off. Tickets are $10.
“We're trying to get the booster club back on its feet and start the year off right,” McKenzie head football coach and athletic director Miles Brown said.
Last weekend, the team visited the Andalusia Wal-Mart Supercenter selling tickets and taking up donations.
Brown said, in just three hours, his players were able to raise a significant amount of money to help the athletic department.
“We had a really good response (in Andalusia) and we are hoping for an ever better one in Greenville,” Brown said.
Having fundraisers like the lawnmower raffle is a vital component to programs like McKenzie, Brown said, and hopes to have future programs like the lawnmower giveaway.
“In a community like ours, a small community, the more money you raise the better your program can be,” Brown said. “Every nickel and dime helps.”
The McKenzie players will be at the Greenville Wal-Mart next Saturday all day, starting at 8:30 a.m.
