Greenville High School senior Lakeeta Bonner signed a scholarship Thursday to play basketball at Alabama Southern Community College.
In the fall, Bonner will play for new Eagle head coach Rosalind Jennings, who comes to ASCC from Mercer University.
“I'm just so happy and excited and ready to play,” Bonner said.
Bonner, who plans to major in accounting, said she is anxious to see how she manages her skills on the “big court.”
Greenville Lady Tigers' head coach Ronald Boggan said he is extremely proud of Bonner and he knows ASCC is getting not only a good player, but also a good person.
“This is a great kid,” Boggan said of Bonner. “She was one of the ones I've had for four years and to see her mature and now play JUCO basketball, it is extremely exciting.”
“Words can't describe how gratifying it is,” he added.
For Bonner, it is just as gratifying.
“They have given me an opportunity and I plan on jumping on it and playing my best,” Bonner said.
