City employees receive new software

Employees of the city clerk's office and personnel department were all smiles Monday night after the Greenville City Council voted to approve the purchase of new software.
The staff members gave a hearty round of applause after the council voted unanimously to spend $45, 501.00 from the city's miscellaneous fund, to purchase a financial software package including modules, installation, training and data conversion for the City Clerk's Office and Personnel Dept. from CSI Technology Outfitters.
“I know how important it is for the city to keep good records to keep us updated, along with
those with whom we do business, so I am happy to see this happen,” commented Council Member Jeddo Bell.
Prior to Monday night's meeting, a public hearing was held to review a rezoning request from Alpha Mortgage, Inc., represented by Debbie Martin Realty and Cahaba Valley Development Corporation.
Ordinance 2007-01 asked to rezone certain property located on Pineapple Highway at Mountain View Drive (adjacent to the city softball complex) from R-A (Residential Agricultural) to R-3 (High-Density Multifamily Residential District).
The ordinance was passed in the regular meeting.
In other new business:
n Approval of Resolution 2007-03, authorizing installation of additional street lighting at 807 Oak Street and the addition of the cost of the street lighting to the city's billing with Alabama Power Company, at a cost of $5.72 a month or $68.64 per year.
n Approval of Resolution 2007-34, authorizing the city to make application for a housing rehabilitation improvements project in the Baptist Hill Neighborhood of the city through the competitive CDBG Program administered by ADECA. The City will be required to provide matching cash funds of $50,000.
n Recognition of appointment of Probate Judge Steve Norman to South Central Alabama Mental Health Board.
Approval of emergency lighting from Haynes, LLC, at $1,789.27 for law enforcement light package for 2007 Tahoe.
n Approval of emergency lighting from Haynes, LLC, at $3,057.76 for law enforcement package for 2007 Dodge Magnum.
n Approval for a ten-ton coil, at $ 1,139.00 from Lee Electric, Inc. to replace a rusted coil for the Public Library heating unit.
n Approval for slide cylinder for sanitation truck #41, at $1,129.20 from Ingram Equipment Co.
n Approval for purchase of 340 rose plants for the Horticultural Dept. at $3,416.00. The money was donated by the Sasanqua Garden Club to the City to enhance the landscaping at the interstate exit ramps as one of their annual beautification projects.
n Approval of $2,580.00 to OverHead Doors, for parts and labor to repair Fire Station 1 rolling door.
n A Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church's Family Life Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16.
n A Chamber “After Hours” is slated for 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 22. An open house and reception for new chamber director, Francine Wasden, is planned.
