Hometown shopping for Mom

We hope you haven't forgotten - Mother's Day is just around the corner, this Sunday, May 13, to be exact.
The Greenville Advocate stopped into a couple of downtown businesses recently to discover some of the great gift-giving ideas they have to offer for Mom's special day.
At the Pineapple on Commerce
St., Mother's Day shoppers can find everything from a new line of gussied-up candle and grill lighters (“Social Lights”) to initialed items - everything from sandalwood-scented soaps and hand towels to napkins and notepads with monogrammed holders.
“We also have these very nice initialed stamps that would make a great personalized gift for Mom,” Store Manager Katrina Scofield says.
If you want to let Mom know she's a real angel, choose from collections like “Sarah's Angels” and “Gracious” with their distinctive angelic figurines and picture frames.
Want to give Mom a versatile gift? Take a look at the boutique's new “Reverse-a-Purse” line.
“These are great. You can use it as a basic black purse, or attach one of these covers, which are reversible. And the prints are really cute,” Scofield points out.
A number of other new bags and totes from “Sea and Sand” offer vibrant colors along with soft pastels, neutrals and natural shell accents, all ideal for the beach season.
As always, The Pineapple carries a full line of crystal and chinaware that will beautify Mom's sideboard and dining room table.
For a practical and beautiful gift idea, Scofield recommends the store's new line of monkeywood kitchen accessories, including square serving trays, “perfect as chargers for casual dining.”
Gourmet food items at the Pineapple include flavor-filled pepper jellies, balsamic sauces, lemon and raspberry curd and scone mixes.
“Here, try one of our scones with some of the curd. They're freshly baked today,” Scofield encourages.
The scones and raspberry curd? Absolutely delicious.
(However, the ladies at The Pineapple want to remind readers to take Mom out for a nice meal this Mother's Day - after all, Mama shouldn't have to cook on this of all days!)
Pamper mom with a gift from the Pineapple's new line of nightwear from popular designer Laura Ashley, or choose a colorful new sweater or cool summer outfit from the store's selection of ladies' clothing.
You can save this week, too.
“We are offering a 30 percent discount on all our clothing items for Wonderful Wednesday, so come in and shop for a great fashion item for Mom or yourself and save,” Scofield says.
The Pineapple also offers a selection of Hallmark cards for the holiday. As always, complimentary gift wrapping is available.
Across the street at Special Finds by Janice, owners Janice and Johnny Cole offer a variety of gift choices for Mom.
Silk arrangements in a rainbow of colors can be found throughout the store, along with decorated natural vine wreaths to provide a welcoming touch to Mom's front door or grace a wall of her home.
Does Mom love country home d\u00E9cor? “We have a wonderful selection of rooster figurines and trays, sunflower arrangements and more for Mama to enjoy,” Janice Cole says.
The Coles are known for their colorful garden and porch flags and banners, from small to over-sized, another great gift idea for Mother's Day.
The shop also features a variety of pewter items, along with attractive photo frames in wood, metal and resin – perfect for a family photo for Mom to enjoy.
Angels take flight here, also, with a number of figurines and frames featuring the heavenly creatures.
For those much-loved mothers who are no longer with us, attractive floral sprays and marker saddles from Special Finds by Janice can provide a beautiful and fitting memorial for the occasion.
As always, Special Finds offers a large selection of sterling silver jewelry, from charms and bracelets, to rings and necklaces, along with the Coles' exclusive designs featuring genuine Swarovski crystals sure to bring a sparkle to Mom's eye. Fashion jewelry, watches and fun handbags will also appeal.
Complimentary gift wrapping is also available at Special Finds.
“We'll do our best to help you find the perfect gift for your mom,” Cole says.
These are just two of the hometown businesses offering a great selection, competitive prices and service with a smile when you shop for Mother's Day.
