Dixie Belles take home sub-district championship

The Greenville Dixie Belles All-Star team took home the sub-district championship Tuesday after sweeping all three games.

Here are the results:

Greenville 3, Luverne 2

Following a Murphy Middleton double, Erin Taylor hit a game-winning double to score Middleton in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to lift the Greenville Dixie Belles All-Star team to victory over Luverne, 3-2.

At the plate for Greenville, Middleton had a triple, double and scored two runs, Nicole Norton had a hit and scored a run, Cortnee Meyers had a hit and Taylor had a double.

For Luverne, Kenzie Blackmon had two hits, Candace Dunn had a hit and scored a run and Tori Free scored a run.

Katie Wilson picked up the complete-game win for Greenville while striking out eight batters and giving up only three hits.

Greenville 8, Luverne 3

Nine Greenville players had either a hit or scored a run June 23 as they cruised to victory over Luverne, 8-3, thus advancing to the sub-district championship game.

Offensively for Greenville, Nikia Powell was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and a run scored, Nicole Norton was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Katie Wilson, Anna Nelson and Tamara Truitt each had a hit, Jenny Ballard scored two runs and Abby Blackmon, Cortnee Meyers and Erin Taylor each scored a run.

For Luverne, Nicole Quinn had a triple, Candace Dunn and Lakendra Hall each had a hit and scored a run and Kelsi Maker scored a run.

On the mound for Greenville, Wilson picked up the win in two innings work with four strikeouts while Shawnee Morrison came in and picked up three strikeouts in five innings work.

Greenville 15, Covington Co. 5

In the opening round of the sub-district tournament, the Greenville Dixie Belles took an early lead and never look back as they took the mercy-rule win over Covington County, 15-5.

At the plate for Greenville, Katie Wilson was 3-3 with a double and two runs scored, Nicole Norton was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Tamara Truitt was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored, Abby Blackmon had a double and scored three runs, Cortnee Meyers had a hit and scored three runs, Anna Nelson and Nikia Powell each had a hit, Murphy Middleton scored two runs and Erin Taylor scored one.

On the mound for Greenville, Nelson picked up the win in two innings work with four strikeouts while Shawnee Morrison pitched three innings and picked up five strikeouts and Norton pitched the final two innings and struck out one.
