This year's YMCA Watermelon Jubilee will feature some big-time entertainment.
Country music star Marty Raybon, formerly of “Shenandoah”
is slated to appear in concert on Saturday night, August 11.
“We are very, very excited about Marty coming and performing for us and we want everyone to come out, bring their lawn chairs and join us on the football field for a great concert,” said Y Director Amanda Phillips.
In the event of rain, the concert will relocate to the Y Gym, Phillips said.
Opening for Raybon will be native son, singer/songwriter/ musician Rock Killough, with another local talent, Rennie McNaughton, performing during the intermission.
“We will offer concessions such as hot dogs, chips and drinks to attendees as well,” Phillips said.
Tickets for the Raybon concert may be purchased in advance at the YMCA for just $10.
The cost will be $15 at the gate on August 11.
“Listen to local radio broadcasts for a chance to win VIP passes, which will include an autograph session, photo ops and finger foods to enjoy,” Phillips said.
Watermelon Jubilee is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, August 11 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 12.
Arts and crafts vendors, festival food, an enlarged children's area, seed-spitting contest and much more - including free slices of juicy, ripe watermelon - will be offered atop Watermelon Hill that weekend. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children.
