Linda K._McCarty Price

Linda K. McCarty Price, &uot;Miss Linda&uot;, 64, beloved wife, mother , grandmother and great-grandmother, died August 19, 2008 at home in Greenville, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Price was a resident of Greenville for more than 35 years.

Her strength, courage , determination and undeniable will were an inspiration to her family and all who knew her.

She was the youngest of three children born in Ft. Worth, Tex., on August 22, 1943. At the age of two, her, her sister and brother were raised by her father, Marvin William Messick, as a single parent.

&uot;Miss Linda&uot; was preceded in death by her father and mother Inez Shannon Kristy.

Mr. Marvin later married Dorothy Messick who as Miss Linda’s stepmother and affectionately became known as &uot;Aunt Dorothy.&uot;

With her mother gone Linda had to grow up quickly and take on responsibility early. She was a vigorous and physically active, working around her home and farm until cancer took its toll.

She was the glue that held her family together, setting a great example, in how she lived life and how she approached death with dignity and courage.

Survivors include husband Bobby Keith Price of Greenville; sons, Gary (Monica) Powell of Dallas, Tex., Curtis (Sandra) Powell of Greenville; daughter, Claudia (Ricky) McNaughton of Mobile, and Sonja P. Godwin of Red Level; 22 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and nine stepchildren; sisters Uranell Remington of Keller, Tex., Julia Messick Williams of Ft. Worth, Tex.; brother John Paul Messick of Ft. Worth, Tex.; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Harrison Funeral Home of Greenville.

The family request that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Montgomery Cancer Wellness Foundation, 4145 Carmichael Rd., Montgomery, AL, 36106, in memory of Linda K. Price.
