Mr. Marvin Eulon Mills, 77, a long time resident of Hacoda, Ala., passed away in his home in the early morning of Thurs., Sept. 18, 2008, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Funeral services will be held Sat., Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. at the Smyrna Baptist Church of Florala with the Rev. Randy Holtz officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery in Florala.
Mr. Mills was born in Geneva County, Ala., on Oct. 20, 1930. He was a lifelong member of Smyrna Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since 1950 and served many years as music director. He received the Degree of State Farmer in 1948, the Degree of America Farmer in 1950 and the Outstanding Conservation Farmer by the Covington County Soil and Water Conservation Division. He was a member of the U.S. National Guard from 1950 until 1954 and the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956 when he was honorably discharged. He was engaged in farming until his retirement. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge No. 685 of Florala and earned the degree of Scottish Rite Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellene Johns Mills of Hacoda; his grandson, Justin Ezra Dunn of Hacoda; parents, Mr. and Mrs F.N. Mills of Hacoda; his brothers, Alfred Mills of Ft. Walton Beach and Lloyd Mills of Colonial Heights, Va.; and his sister, Betty Mills Glock of Dothan.
Survivors include his daughters, Jan (Johnny) Harbuck of Florala, Cheryl (Ellis) Dunn of Hacoda and Ann (Mark) Benson of Opp; his grandchildren, Holly (DeWayne) Jones of Florala, Julie (Terry) Barnes of Opp, Gavin (Milisa) Dunn of Hacoda, Carli (Chris) Linton of Birmingham, Cole (Kayla) Dunn of Birmingham, Pam (Ty) Ashberry of Opp, Eric (Laurie) Prescott of Roswell, Ga., Melissa Prescott of Opp, Jana Prescott of Opp, Leslie (Steven) Riley of Birmingham and Beth Benson of Opp; his great-grandchildren, Cody and Nicholas Jones of Florala, Clayton and Cassidy Dunn of Hacoda, Connor and Carter Linton of Birmingham and Clay, Cal, Meredith and Matt Ashberry of Opp; brothers and sisters, Gladys Harper of Jasper, Ga., Frances Smith of Birmingham, Billy (Faye) Mills of Birmingham and Mary (Charles) Zeron of Dothan; sister-in-law, Inez Mills of Ft. Walton Beach; his brother-in-law, Robert Glock of Dothan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jim and Evelyn Abbott of Florala and Geraldine Johns of Victoria, Texas; his aunt, Arlene Curenton of Andalusia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gavin Dunn, Cole Dunn, Eric Prescott, Ty Ashberry, DeWayne Jones, Cody Jones, Chris Linton and Terry Barnes.
