An Andalusia woman was jailed Friday after she was caught “red handed” in an apparent drug transaction.

A Drug Task Force spokesman said 23-year-old Melissa Lee Thompson was seen allegedly selling prescription pills outside her Mock Street home Friday.

“We had received information about a person selling illegal narcotics, namely prescription pills, from a house on Mock Street,” the spokesman said. “Thanks to that information, agents were able to observe first-hand an illegal transaction take place involving Thompson.”

The spokesman said the pills appeared to be Xanax but did not specify the quantity.

Thompson is charged with distribution of a controlled substance. She is currently being held in the Covington County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

More arrests are pending, the DTF spokesman said.

“We were able to move quickly on this information thanks to the vigilance of the citizens of Andalusia,” the spokesman said. “Without their assistance, arrests from cases like this would not be possible.”
