A one-vehicle accident left a Florala woman severely injured after her vehicle struck and broke a light pole in half Thursday.

Shortly after 7 a.m., Crystal Lee Odom Collingwood, 26, was traveling south on State Hwy. 55 towards Florala in a 1992 Isuzu Trooper when the accident occurred.

“From what it looks like is that she ran off the highway at Sightler Road, overcorrected, crossed the highway again and eventually hit a light pole,” said an Alabama State Trooper spokesman. “Broke it clean in two.”

Collingwood suffered “some pretty extensive injuries” during the accident but was unable to be life flighted from the scene due to the early morning fog, the trooper said.

She was transported from the scene by Advanced EMS to Andalusia Regional Hospital and later to Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.

As of press time, Collingwood remained in stable condition.
