Anne Lucy Holland Shelley, 98, a resident of Andalusia and a former resident of the Tumbleton Community in Henry County, Ala., died Thurs., Oct. 9, 2008, in the early evening at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Sat., Oct. 11, 2008, in the Tolbert Baptist Church, north of Headland, with Dr. Fred Karthaus, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. today in the church sanctuary.
Mrs. Shelley was a native of the Capps Community in Henry County and the daughter of the late Roscoe S. Holland and Nannie Singletary Holland. She lived in the Tumbleton Community of Henry County most of her lifetime before moving to Andalusia in 1996. Mrs. Shelley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia and was a former member of the Tolbert Baptist Church where she served as the church pianist and organist more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dewey M. Shelley; three sisters, Ludie Holland, Alice Smith and Jewel Kirkland; and three brothers, Everette Holland, Jim Holland and M.V. Holland.
Surviving relatives include a daughter and son-in-law, Nan Shelley (Claude) Pike of Andalusia; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Mark D. (Marilyn) Shelley of Waverly, Ala.; four grandchildren, William M. Pike of Marietta, Ga., Sylvia Pike (Eric) Marcus of Prattville, Dr. Mark D. (Elizabeth) Shelley II of Houston and Marla Shelley (Chris) Smith of Montgomery; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Melissa Smith, both of Montgomery.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Charles Brackin, Steve Parrish, Richard Masters, Stanley Sanders, James Hardiman and Otto Singletary.
