Straughn defeats Calhoun 47-14, remain undefeated

With the Straughn Tigers lighting up the scoreboard 47-14, they are now 7-0 on the season and 5-0 in the region.
Straughn gained a total of 238 yards and Calhoun had 60 yards.
Head coach Trent Taylor said the second string and defense played a good game.
“I was proud of the way we played defensively, and I was also proud of the way the B-team moved the ball offensively,” Taylor said.
During the first quarter, the Tigers started off when the defense scored on a safety with 10:02 left in the quarter.
With 9:10 remaining in the first quarter, Andrew Stokes scored his first of three touchdowns for the night on a 1-yard run.
The defense made another safety with 4:45 left in the first quarter to bring the score to 11-0.
Stokes scored his second touchdown from three yards out with 3:05 to go in the first quarter. Then, Stokes again scored from 3 yards out with 38 seconds left in the first quarter making the score 25-0.
The defense made their third safety of the night with 11:05 in the second quarter making the score 27-0.
Quarterback Ryne Taylor completed five passes on eight attempts for one touchdown when he connected an 18-yard touchdown pass to James Byrd with 5:15 to go in the second quarter making the score 34-0. With 2:40 remaining in the second quarter, C.J Christopher intercepted a Calhoun pass and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown. Straughn went in at halftime leading 40-6.
In the third quarter with 4:10 remaining, Anthony Elmore scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. Josh Dewrell added the extra point making the score 47-6.
Calhoun added a touchdown to end the third quarter 47-14.
Josh Dewrell was 7-of-7 for 47 yards on the night.
Tyler Yelverton had three catches for 54 yards for the night.
“I am proud we are in the playoffs, but we need to step up the intensity level,” Taylor said.
Next week, Straughn will travel to faceoff against No. 1 T.R Miller and kickoff is at 7 p.m.
