Tuesday was the final meeting for two of the five members of the Covington County Commission.
Chairman Greg White and District 1 Commissioner Kent Colquett, who were both defeated in the June primary election, gave their final remarks during the day’s regular commission meeting.
Both expressed their deepest appreciation to all Covington County residents for allowing them to serve on the commission.
Colquett, who was first on the rotation, said the day marked the end of a career that began in 1984.
“I can tell you I love politics,” Colquett said. “I love working and helping the public. I don’t know what the good Lord has in store for me. Who knows? In four or even eight years, I could be back.”
For White, the meeting was a culmination of a nearly 14-year history as a county commissioner.
“Over the last 13 and a half years, I have taken great pride in the accomplishments of this county,” White said. “I can remember going to an event and hearing the University of Alabama president speak and he commented on the cooperative spirit in Covington County. It truly has been a pleasure to serve the citizens of Covington County.”
