Voter turnout high in county

Seventy-one percent of Covington County’s 22,240 registered voters exercised their right to vote Tuesday in an election that election officials said ran “remarkably smoothly.”
“We’ve never had anything like this around here,” said Sammy Glover of the Covington County Board of Registrars. “I just hope they’ll keep the interest up. We’ve got a governor’s race in two years.”
Glover said there were very few voting problems reported, and that the election ran smoothly for the turnout.
Special Probate Judge Leland Enzor agreed.
“Our poll officials are well trained and all of them had worked before,” he said. “This is the highest turnout I can recall and it exceeded all predictions.”
