Eufaula gave Andalusia its first loss of the season Saturday night in the first round of the Dothan Eagle Holiday Prep Classic in Ozark. The Bulldogs fell to the undefeated Tigers by the score of 70-64.

Andalusia (12-1) trailed by as many as 11 points before battling back to cut Eufaula’s lead to six points with 30 seconds to go. The Bulldogs had chances to cut into the lead further, but missed free throws and layups down the stretch.

“We just kept making the same mistakes,” Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said. “We played hard after we got down, but that’s something that this program has always done — when we get down, we always fight like the devil. What I want us to do is fight that hard from the very beginning.”

Andalusia trailed 5-0 early before scoring eight straight points to take the lead. The teams exchanged the lead several times, with the Tigers (14-0) holding a 34-28 lead at halftime.

“We played the game in spurts,” Robertson said. “It seemed like we had a breakdown at every position at some point in the game.”

Nico Johnson led Andalusia with 18 points. Brandon Sims scored 14 points, Leslie James chipped in 10 and O’Brien Curry added nine.

Calvin Thomas led Eufaula with 22 points and Herbert Brooks added 16.

Andalusia opens area play Friday on the road at Clarke County.
