T.C. Harris Jr., the federal inmate who escaped from the Covington County Jail New Year’s Day was captured shortly before 11 p.m. that night by federal authorities in Mobile County.

Harris, 49, had been housed in the county jail since Dec. 19 for violating his federal probation conditions.

Law enforcement immediately launched a manhunt, which concluded locally around 5 p.m. Thursday.

It was not readily known how Harris vacated the county jail, nor was it known how he made his way to Mobile, authorities said.
