Thanks for helping ‘Christmas’ shine

The people of the Andalusia area have generous, giving hearts, especially during the Christmas season. Caring folks provided for more than 650 “angels” displayed on Christmas trees at area businesses and other places in November and December — more angels than any past registration.
Among the many “angel” sites were: Andalusia Regional Hospital, Ansley Place, CCB Community Bank, Christ the King Catholic Church, Covington Electric Cooperative, Darby’s Pharmacy, Dimples Day Care, First Baptist Church, Guardian Angel Day Care,
JC Penny’s, Loot, PowerSouth, Regions Bank, Southeast Alabama Gas District, Southern Independent Bank, Superior Bank, Tillman Family Eye Care, Wachovia Bank, Walker Business Machines and Wal-Mart.
Each angel represented a needy child whose family could not otherwise provide Christmas gifts. Each angel listed the child’s clothing sizes and one or two toys for “Santa” to bring.
Thanks also to local civic clubs, Winn Dixie, Little Caesars’, Coca Cola and several individuals as well as the Dixon Foundation and United Fund, who made donations to Andalusia Community Christmas. We’d like to add a note of thanks to all the volunteers who helped with registration, bought gifts for angels who were not adopted and all of Santa’s helpers who participated the night of the Christmas party. Students from LBW and Andalusia High School lent a helping hand. Thanks also to the Andalusia Star-News, Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce, WAAO and W40BE for helping with publicity.
To everyone involved, we want to say that you made Christmas merry and bright for many needy children by giving your time, money and gifts!
On behalf of the board,
Larry Avery, chairman
