Andalusia Ballet students will participate in the Alabama Dance Festival in Birmingham this weekend.

Ballet companies from throughout Alabama will participate in the event, which includes performances, classes and opportunities to audition for summer programs.

Complexions Contemporary Ballet is the featured company for this year’s festival.

The Andalusia Ballet was invited to perform in the Alabama Dance Festival Showcase at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Theatre.

The group will perform “Redemption,” choreographed by Callie Hatchett. Performers include Lisette Benefield, Carly Brown, Taylor Donaldson, Morgan Dove, Shannon Flatt, Daley Kappenman, Meredith Grace Kerr, Mary Ashton McMillan, Cameron Morgan, Lakin Thornton and Kathryn Williams.

The group also will perform “Redemption,” set to “Natural Blues” by Moby, at Troy University next weekend.

Andalusia Ballet artistic director Meryane Martin Murphy said the university is starting a dance program and has designed a weekend event to create interest. Companies were invited to submit videos of a piece, and from those, three companies were chosen to perform, among them the Andalusia Ballet.
