Come May, be ready to “Paint the County Purple” as Covington County comes together for the annual Relay for Life event to celebrate the lives of those touched by cancer and to raise funds to find a cure.

Ressie Gray, publicity chair for the event said there are nine teams currently registered to participate in the Fri., May 8, event.

“And we would love to have more,” Gray said. “Many of the ones already registered have participated in years past – like Sitel and ones from the schools. Our newest team to join is the City of Andalusia. We are so excited to have not only them, but also all of our teams that have already joined.

Gray said people will soon realize something new is being done this year to help spread the word about Relay for Life.

“This year we’re doing a ‘Paint the County Purple’ campaign,” she said. “We are selling large purple bows for $10 to hang on your door, mailbox or businesses to show your support for Relay for Life. We hope to see this county covered in purple.”

The next team captain meeting is Tues., Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Covington County Board of Education. For info, contact Ressie Gray at 427-3832 or 504-5225, Jennifer Lewis at 222-0533 or Denese Smith at 488-3559.
