Goody’s Family Clothing Store will close its doors on Wed., Feb. 25.

Assistant store manager Kendall Morris said the signs announcing the “7 days left” were hung Tuesday in the store.

Citizens were told in January of the store’s eventual closing — four months after the privately held retailer emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2008. Signs proclaiming “Going out of Business” and “70-80% off” were hoisted in front of the Westgate Plaza storefront immediately after the announcement.

On Tuesday, Morris said residents can expect that 70-80 percent markdown to be slashed one more time before the final closing.

“I know we will have one more markdown, but we have no idea how much or what the final prices will be,” Morris said. “We do know, though, (corporate) said sell it all. That means every piece of clothing, fixtures. We’ve even got office supplies, like markers, folders, pens and calculators for sale.

“It’s all got to go,” he said. “We’ve even jokingly told people that if they see an employee standing around, not doing anything — we’ll sell them off too.”

When the initial closing was announced, store manager Maggie Givens said she was urging employees to begin searching for new jobs. By now, the majority of the remaining employees have already done so, with the exception of Morris.

When asked what he plans to do, he said he is uncertain but plans to examine his options.

“Something will come along,” he said.

The Andalusia store is one of the company’s 287 stores scattered throughout 20 Midwestern and Southern states.

Morris said company officials have announced that the Troy location will close Thurs., Feb. 26, and the Dothan location, Fri., Feb. 27.
