A McKenzie man traveling on the wrong side of the road is dead, and an Andalusia man injured, after a head on collision on U.S. Hwy. 84.
A spokesman with the Alabama State Troopers said Robert Clayton Williams, 21, died at Andalusia Regional Hospital from injuries in an accident between two Chevrolet pickup trucks that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. one mile east of Andalusia.
“Initially, Mr. Williams was on Airport Road or County Road 42,” the spokesman said. “He made a left turn onto (U.S.) Hwy. 84 and began traveling the wrong way. He was traveling eastbound in a westbound lane. The second vehicle was traveling westbound in the outside lane and they hit in a head on type manner and Mr. Williams was killed.”
The driver of the second vehicle, a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck, was identified as 42-year-old Michael Duwane Johnson. He suffered unknown injuries and was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital.
The accident is still under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
