A fire burned most of a two-story house in Andalusia Tuesday evening.

The fire was first reported to emergency response officials at approximately 4:45 p.m., with the Andalusia Fire Department quickly responding. The blaze occurred at 406 East Watson Street.

“When we arrived, the fire was involved in the first and second floor,” AFD Capt. James Grimes said. “It was primarily in the rear of the house and flames were coming out of the windows. Probably 60 percent of the house was totally involved.”

Grimes said it was unclear was might have caused the fire. A house fire also destroyed a mobile home Monday afternoon near Gantt.

“You do normally see more fires this time of year because it’s cold and people have different kind of heating elements in their homes,” Grimes said. “I’m not saying that caused this particular fire, but it is a common cause of fires in winter.”

Grimes said Advanced EMS and the APD also responded to the scene.

“We are also grateful to the APD for their assistance,” he said.

It is unknown whether there were any injuries, and the name of the home’s owner was not released to the media as of press time.
