Mrs. Elvie Carter Whatley Ellis, 98, of Andalusia, died Fri., March 6, 2009, at the Andalusia Hospital. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Davis officiating and burial following in Oakey Ridge Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Wilma (Bill) Tillman of Andalusia and Willie (Harvey) Brooks of Pensacola, Fla.; her brother, W. O. (Willadeen) Carter of Andalusia; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Frazier Whatley, Dennis Cross, and Ernie Ellis; her son, Wilson Whatley; three grandchildren; her parents, Harley and Mary Magdalene Carter; four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Ellis is to be commended for her services to her country during World War II as a welder on ships and airplanes in Mobile.
Pallbearers were Steve Maddox, Kenny Maughon, Dwight Mikel, Shane Miller, Bill Tillman, Jr. and Buddy Wilkes.
