Yard sale fund-raisers this Saturday

Both the Andalusia Junior Service League “Sal-A-Bration” and the First United Methodist Church men’s club yard sales are still on for Saturday.
AJSL’s Terrie Frazier said doors to the Kiwanis Center will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 11 a.m.
“We’ve got 20 members and each member has brought a great selection of items to be sold,” Frazier said. “We’ve got children’s clothes, assorted household items — lots of odds and ends, and I think I even saw a washing machine.”
Frazier said members will hold a bake sale and raffle off a grill as part of their fund-raising effort. During the last sale, members held raised more than $1,300 for local charities such as Relay for Life, Sav-A-Life and local schools.
FUMC men’s club member Jim Wilcox said this is the club’s first attempt at a yard sale.
“They used to do this years ago, and it was a success,” he said. “We thought we’d try our hand at it. The money we raise is going to support the family members in our church who serve in missions. We have Dr. Ben Roberts in Africa and Dr. Wells’ daughter and son-in-law in Florida.”
Items were donated by church members and include a variety of things, he said.
“We have clothing, bedding, kitchen items and large furniture items like couches, chairs, and rocking chairs,” he said. “We’ve even got some golf clubs.”
The sale will be held from 7 a.m. until noon in the church’s fellowship hall, located at the corner of East Three Notch Street and Sixth Avenue.
