At least one new business has committed to locating in Opp’s Industrial Park, and negotiations are in the works for a second, Mayor H.D. Edgar said Monday.

Edgar said while he is under contractual obligation to not release the name or nature of the new business, he could say it would “be here by June.”

“We’ve been working on this for more than a year,” he said. “I can say now we have a signed contract in hand and they’ll be here by June.

“We are very excited,” he said. “And we’re working on another (business) right now, and with the way the economy is, anytime you get industry to come in, is a good thing. We’re extremely lucky here in Opp.”

Edgar did confirm the new industry would employ 25 at start up, with the number to rise to 100 within two years.
