Dr. James Christakos

Dr. James G. Christakos, 87, of Niceville, Fla., formerly of Andalusia, passed away Mon., April 13, 2009.
Dr. Christakos was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on Oct. 8, 1921. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and a lieutenant commander in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. He married Anastasia Christakos in 1948. Dr. Christakos graduated from the University of Chicago School of Optometry and moved to Alabama to open his practice. He served on the governor’s staff as the vision consultant for the state of Alabama and maintained offices in Andalusia and Brewton until retiring and moving to Niceville with his wife.
Dr. Christakos is survived by his son, Gregory J. Christakos; daughter-in-law, Starla Christakos, and two grandsons, James and Michael Christakos of Niceville, Fla.
A graveside service will be held today, Wed., April 15, at 2 p.m. for family and close friends, with a brief visitation prior to the service.
