Saints defeat Tigers in 2 games

It took one extra inning in game one and a rally from behind in game two for the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Saints to win a doubleheader 5-4, 6-5, over the Andrew College (Ga.) Tigers, on Wednesday.

LBWCC’s Chris Fulford led the Saints behind the plate with a combined three hits and seven RBIs.

In game two, Andrew College shot out to a 4-1 lead by the fourth inning before LBWCC’s Fulford hit a three-run home run to tie the game.

Cory Reed was 2-for-2 with two runs; Shane Turner was 2-for-3 with one run; Jeremy Williams was 2-for-3 with one triple and one stolen base; and Chris Fulford was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Aaron Elmore earned the win for the Saints (33-6) in the first game, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing three hits, one run, zero earned runs, one walk and striking out six.

Tyler Dent got the save for the Saints, pitching 1.0 inning and allowing one hit, three runs, one earned run, one walk and striking out one.

After Fulford’s three-run home run in the fourth inning, the game tied back up at 5-5 and LBWCC’s Max Norwood was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to earn the Saints the win.

Josh Dozier picked up the win for the Saints, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing one hit, zero runs and one walk while striking out four.

Fulford was 1-for-3 with one run, three RBIs and one home run; Jacob Dixon was 1-for-4 with one run, one RBI and one double; and Cory Reed was 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

The Saints will travel to Cuthbert, Ga., to face Andrew College in a doubleheader today. The games start at 12:30 p.m.

On April 20, the Saints will play Shelton State at Auburn-Montgomery at 5 p.m.
