Mr. York Elliott Smith, 75, of Andalusia, died Sun., April 26, 2009.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Wed., April 29, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred Karthaus officiating. Burial will follow in Rawls Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, June Ann Haines Smith of Andalusia; his son, William York Smith and his wife, Wanda, of Escondido, Calif.; and his daughter, Jennifer Anne Smith Dansby and her husband, Neal, of Andalusia. Additionally, his family includes a surviving sister, Ursey Dell Smith Nichols of the Rawls community; a brother, Junior Harold Sorrells, and his wife, Jeanette; and a sister, Peggy Ann Sorrells Henderson and her husband, Jake, of Opp.
York was loved by his grandchildren, Amber Michelle Smith, William York Smith II, and Eric Howell Smith, all of California, and Elliott O’Neal Dansby and Judith Anne Dansby of Andalusia.
His close family also includes Glenda Winters, Brunson and Zola Nichols, Phyllis and Tommy Culpepper, JoAnn and Paul Sanders and Judy Henby, all of the Andalusia area, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served 20 years.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Andalusia.
Pallbearers will be A.C. Godwin, Don Ingram, Lloyd Rodgers, Morgan Rodgers, Greg Henderson, Todd Nichols, Gordon Vickers and A.G. Palmore. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Walker and Leon Dansby.
