Fishing for fun
Saturday morning, the Open Pond Recreation Area was ‘filled to the gills’ with little anglers participating in the 26th annual U.S. Forest Service/Kiwanis Club Kids Fishing Derby.
Children under the age of 16 got to fish for free with a family member’s supervision, and club members said more than 120 children, like 5-year-old Logan Eudy of Red Oak, participated in the event. In addition to fishing from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m., the day also included a casting contest, door prizes and lunch grilled outdoors.
