Students earn top awards at banquet

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students Dr. Rex Butler, Allen Butler and Rexanne Butler were honored at the AKA Grand Nationals annual banquet for the 2008 NASKA (North American Sport Karate Association) at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Ky., on June 11.
They have competed in several NASKA rated tournaments in Kentucky, Georgia and Florida during the 2008 karate season and have accumulated ranking points all year for their efforts in the divisions they entered at the tournaments.
Allen Butler received the 2008 Black Belt World Champion award for the 10-to-11-year-old fighting division and also had top-10 finishes in several other categories. These categories were: black belt creative forms — fifth place; black belt creative weapons — seventh place; black belt traditional forms — seventh place; and black belt traditional weapons — seventh place.
Rexanne Butler finished as the 8-to-9-year-old Black Belt National Champion in the fighting division. She also came in second place in the 8-to-9-year-old forms and seventh place in the 13-and-under musical forms.
Dr. Rex Butler won three NASKA National titles in 2008 in the black belt 40-and-up fighting, forms and weapons division. He also finished in second place in musical weapons and musical forms.
