McKenzie shuts out Pleasant Home, 49-0

MCKENZIE – Pleasant Home took a 49-0 loss to McKenzie Friday night in region play.
McKenzie opened the scoring in the first quarter when Armond Ball broke a 30-yard touchdown run at the 7:26 mark. Emmanuel Johnson kicked the extra point to make it 7-0. Johnson then set up McKenzie’s next touchdown with a 50-yard punt return to the Eagles’ 14-yard-line.
Sir Wallace Presley hit Calvin Henderson on a fade route to make it 13-0 Tigers.
Late in the first quarter, Melvin Owens swept around the left end for a 55-yard touchdown run.
Johnson then ran around left end for the two- point conversion to make it 21-0.
With 10:52 left in the second quarter Johnson broke another long run from 54 yards behind the left side of the Tiger offensive line to push the score to 27-0.
Johnson promptly passed to Charles Thompson for the two-point play to run it to 29-0. The Tigers struck again with 2:34 left in the first half. Armond Ball went around the left side and raced 62 yards for another McKenzie touchdown.
Reggie Banks kicked the extra point to make it 36-0.
McKenzie’s Emmanuel Johnson finished the first half scoring with a 62-yard punt return to make the score 43-0 at half time.
Pleasant Home’s defense came to life in the second half, shutting down the powerful Tiger offense until late in the fourth quarter.
Armond Ball again broke through the Eagle defense for his longest run of the night, a 97-yard jaunt.
McKenzie missed the extra point but the damage was done at that point in the game.
McKenzie rushed for more 400 yards with Ball leading the way with 231 yards on eight carries. The Tigers’ Johnson ran 5 times for 89 yards from the quarterback position and added over 100 yards in punt returns.
McKenzie resumes play next Friday night at home against J.U. Blacksher. Pleasant Home returns to action next Friday night at home against Coffeeville.
