Mr. Andy Carter, 74, of Enterprise, passed away Thurs., Sept. 24, 2009, at Medical Center Enterprise.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. DeWayne Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Dozier cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 until 8 pm. The body will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Albert St., Enterprise, AL 36330.
Mr. Carter was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Andalusia to the late H.S. and Cumie Bence Carter. For many years he worked in the manufacturing industry with the last being at Kleinerts in Elba for 20 years. He was a graduate of Troy University with a master’s degree. He was also a disabled U.S. Army veteran. He was an ordained deacon of the First Baptist Church of Eatonton, Ga., and a current member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Enterprise. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Clevis Mack, Selma Curl and Gaynell Adams; four brothers, Elton Carter, Bill Carter, Dean Carter and H.S. Carter; and a son-in-law, John Kirakos.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lanelle Rountree Carter of Enterprise; a daughter, Debbie Kirakos of Enterprise; two sons, Dr. Thomas Carter (Melissa) of Auburn, Dr. Andy Bruce Carter of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Flay Owens and Jean Fuqua, both of Andalusia; grandchildren, Casey K. Biddle (Jason), Andrew Kirakos (Ashley), all of Enterprise, T.J. Carter, Adam Carter, Aaron Carter, Alex Carter, Catie Carter, all of Auburn; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Carter and Sara Carter, both of Andalusia, Jerry Carter of Charleston, S.C., and Martha Jo Sasser of Montgomery, Ala.; brother-in-law, Billy Rountree (Ann) of Lynn Haven, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
